Poor Texas.

I'm just at a loss for words about Texas right now. I find myself watching tons of CNN and MSNBC for news and updates. OUr daughter, Chris and her hubby just moved here a month ago from Houston. Do you know how many times I have said prayers in thanks for having them here in Arizona instead of there? We are so grateful that their daughter Alexa moved here a year ago. I am truly thankful and will never forget.

I've been giving to different charities for the flood victims and hopefully some of the money will actually go towards the victims. We can hope. Does anyone else find themselves watching CNN nonstop these days?

Sending hugs to any of our friends in Texas, hoping they are safe and sound. For people we don't know, I wish them warmth, shelter and love from everyone around them.

Bless them all.

Hugs, Patt

This is a very scary situation. I just read that only 15% of Houstonians (?) have flood insurance. How will they and Houston ever make a come back? It's a huge county, that's not only residential but rural as well.

I watch the reruns of Animal Cops Houston, and I remember the episode when they traveled down to Galveston after Hurricane Ike. How will the animal shelters make it back?

(we won't discuss the "president" who offers platitudes but plans to reduce FEMA's budget and is pushing for a shutdown.)

You're a good woman, Patt, and I'm so relieved your daughter and her family are out of harm's way. *hugs*

I'm very grateful and have been donating to HEB for their efforts. They are feeding everyone from the disaster. If anyone needs the link, here it is. If everyone gave $1.00, it would help a ton.

I'm glad your family moved and are safe.

I can't watch the coverage. I know how badly depressed I was with Katrina. Just a few minutes of this when it first started and I had nightmares. I can't imagine how these people will manage. It's shock in the beginning, but in the long term, it'll be a serious battle.

In addition, Nepal, Bangladesh, and parts of China have been flooded with nearly 1,200 dead and 41 million displaced, 100,000 homes destroyed.

Tell me again how there's no climate change. Trump and the republicans have slashed funding and eliminated the scientists to help us stop this shit. They've cut the regulations. It's mad and maddening.

It is maddening. And no one in charge seems to care. It hasn't affected them, so they don't care. It's a shame. I had to stop watching CNN and MSNBC because I was getting depressed. I wish I could do more to help. :(

It has been very dreadful looking on the news, and of course there's always a long recovery period after a disaster which is nowhere near as 'glam' for the news to cover. We have a friend with relatives in Texas - hopefully not in the affected area, but we'll have the chance to ask tomorrow.

Very glad that you and yours are okay.

I'm really glad Houston wasn't any worse than it was. It's horrifying to even think of.

It is horrifying. Some nights I can hardly sleep. It's very upsetting and it's not happening to me. Can you imagine how they feel?

No TV at home, so I don't see a lot of news. I have a cousin-in-law (a cousin's widow) in the area who's flooded out. My other cousins (her late husband's siblings) can't reach her by phone but aren't worried yet because they believe she planned to evacuate and it's hard to reach anyone by phone right now. I keep praying for everyone there. A local business is sending a truck with donations down this week; I'll be looking to see what they need.

So glad your family is safe in Arizona!
