Gratitude Meme: Day 29

Day 29: This morning, I am very grateful that Shannon went over to see Vincent. He said he had chicken pox, his baby girl had them and he didn't go see a doctor. Well Shannon went to see him tonight to make sure he was doing well and he's not. It's not chicken pox, it's no doubt blood poisoning and MRSA. He's in the Emergency Room right now, waiting to be seen. He may be 22 years old, but he sometimes acts like he's six. If I had a red line going up my arm, I would be frantic. Not him, he just figured it was something strange and left it at that. He didn't mention it to us or anything. He could have been dead in a day or two. I've heard awful stories of blood poisoning going to the heart and killing people, so I hope he's going to be all right. I feel better now that he's in a doctor's hands. And the next time I see him, he's getting a smack on the back of his head. Not too hard, mind you, but to let him know he has to use his head now and then. So for today, I am grateful that Shannon was thinking enough to go and check on him. Gosh, all this drama. (And we all hate drama.)

Hugs, Patt

Update: It's Shingles and one of them got MRSA or staff (They're doing tests) and he has blood poisoning, so he's on two anti-biotics and has to rest for however long. They had to lance the damn thing it was so big and drain it. I can't believe he let it go that long without saying something to us. Shannon is on her way home now and I"ll hear all about the morning. God, we're dragging butt today. At least he's on meds now and we can stop worrying for now. They drew a line on his arm and said if the red line goes above that he has to get to the hospital right away. So he's still not out of the woods yet. We'll see how he does today.

Updating the Update: Well, I went to go and see Vincent this morning, after no sleep whatsoever and he looks horrible. I can't believe they didn't admit him to the hospital. They drew a line with a permanent marker to show how far the red line could go on his arm and it's already gone three inches above it. So Shannon is taking him back to the emergency room again and hopefully this time, they'll admit him for a couple of days. The other arm is starting too, so it needs to be taken care of also. He's so upset, he's missing all of this work and has no sick time coming, so he doesn't know what he's going to do about anything. Not to mention he's not supposed to be around a lot of people until he's been on the antibiotics for three days and he's going to have to go back to the ER and very contagious. It's like a vicious circle. Poor thing, he misses his little girl and he hasn't seen her in a week. Thank god for that. She was diagnosed with chicken pox last week and today her mom took her back to see if she has what Vincent has. We think Vincent got the shingles from Jalya's chicken pox. But not certain. The hole in his arm is alarming. You know, I might go with Shannon. Got to get ready. I'll keep you all posted.

Hopeful final update:

We went over to take him to the ER and he had taken two doses of his meds and soaked in epson salt and an oatmeal bath and he was much, much better. We panicked for nothing. You know, you see those red lines and you just panic. But the line was down below the permanent marker, so he's doing just fine. He's on two different kinds of antibiotics. Don't you find that strange? But whatever works. He said he's watching the line really closely, so I think it's all under control. His baby girl had to have her big sore lanced and Vincent just feels horrible. No one else around them has it, so we still don't know what caused all of this. Looks like everything will be just fine. Thank you everyone for listening, reading and just being here for me.

Hugs, Patt

I'm still waiting for Shannon to get home. Don't know if this is good or bad. It's already 2:00 here and I can't even think about sleeping. I hope he's going to be just fine. I'll keep everyone posted.

I hope he's okay!!! OMG, that kind of thing is so scary. Kids, and even at his age, he's a kid really, they just don't think anything serious can happen to them.

The time thing doesn't usually mean much. ERs have an alternate time universe. Everything takes forever there. Plus, if it's a bad infection, he'll probably be admitted for IV antibiotics.

I hope Shannon calls soon. I'm getting more worried, but you're probably right, they might have to admit him, or he might be there in a full waiting room. YOu just never know. It's 3:16 in the morning. Shannon is going to be dragging butt today. Poor thing.

I hope she calls soon just to let you know what's going on. The waiting in the dark it just so stressful.

Shingles!!! Yikes. He's so young. You don't think of the young getting shingles. Poor guy.

Hope the meds help and he's all better soon.

I think of it as an older person disease also. He's just lucky, I guess. LOL He'll get past this and be just fine. If I don't kill him first.

Definitely sounds like blood poisoning. Fingers crossed he's all right and you'll hear soon, if you haven't already.

Oh, dear, shingles can linger for ages... and is draining enough on its own without blood poisoning added to it. He's going to have to take care for quite a while.

But at least he's getting treatment now.

I hope he'll be all right too, Tinn. It's scary when people let things go too long. I just posted an update.
